The classic Jewish wedding ceremony includes the breaking of a glass at the end.  At weddings of Czechs, Greeks, Germans, and Hindus, they break crockery.  I'm interested in learning more about this kind of wedding ceremony custom--the origins, the speculation of anthropologists on the origins, the specifics of breakage in other cultures, etc.

Can anyone here point me to some resource (textbook, paper, web site, etc) that lists wedding customs from different cultures that involve breaking or otherwise damaging things?  Thanks.
